Academic Departments
The Academic Departments at College take a great deal of pride in not only their excellent results, but also the range of enriching lessons and activities they offer. Girls are given a broad education as they progress from LC1 (year 7) to SFC2 (year 13) and our 20 departments guide them through public exams in more than 30 subjects. The girls will study for GCSEs or IGCSEs in UC4 & 5 (years 10 and 11) and in SFC 1 & 2, they opt for either A Levels or the International Baccalaureate Diploma. The Cambridge Pre-U is offered in Chinese.
Most girls will take 10 GCSE subjects, including compulsory Mathematics, English Language and Literature. A minimum of two separate sciences is recommended. In the Sixth Form they will study four or five AS levels and three or four A2 levels, or the IB diploma. We offer tremendous possibilities with regard to subject combinations and girls are provided with plenty of opportunity to discuss new subjects at each stage in their education.
GCSE subject choices are made by spring half term in LC3 (year 9), while AS and IB selections must be confirmed by February of UC5. Aside from the formal timetable, departments host academic conferences, organise trips at home and abroad, and host extra-curricular clubs.
In this section you will be able to read an overview of the activities undertaken by each department, along with detailed summaries of the subject syllabuses.
