Athletics

Athletics is one of the four major sports that girls take part in during the Summer term. There are teams for every age group from U13 to U19 (senior). There is an extensive fixture list arranged for the season which includes weekday fixtures against local schools as well as fixtures against other boarding schools on Saturday afternoons. In addition to fixtures against other schools CLC also enters teams and individuals into the following competitions, trials and championships:

  • Cheltenham and District Schools Athletics Association Minors Championships (U13)
  • Cheltenham and District Schools Athletics Association Minors Championships (U14)
  • English Schools Athletics Association Cup Competition (U14)
  • Cheltenham and District Schools Athletics Association Year 9 Championships (U15)
  • English Schools Athletics Association Cup Competition (U16)
  • Cheltenham and District Schools Athletics Association Trials (U15, U17 and U19)
  • Gloucestershire Schools Athletics Association County Championships (U15/U17/U19)
  • English Schools Athletics Association South West Championships (U15, U17 and U19)
  • English Schools Athletics Association National Championships (U15, U17 and U19)
  • South West Schools Athletics Association Combined Events (U15, U17 and U19)

Athletics is a compulsory element of the curriculum in Lower College and can be continued as an option in Upper College and Sixth Form College if desired. There is also a thriving athletics club which runs twice a week during the Summer term. An Inter House Athletics Competition takes place at the end of the Summer term at the Prince of Wales Stadium in Cheltenham . The Cheltenham and County Harriers is a local club, which has an excellent junior section, and girls are welcome to join this club if they wish to do so. They train twice a week all year round at the Prince of Wales Stadium.
