Curriculum Summaries

Classical Civilisation

This subject is studied as an option from LC3 onwards.

LC3: an introduction to the classical world; who were the Greeks and the Romans? Aspects of Greek and Roman culture and society are studied.

UC4 (New GCSE): pupils study four units – City Life in the Classical World (Athens), Epic and Myth (Ovid Metamorphoses), Community Life in the Classical World (Pompeii) and Culture and Society in the Classical World.

UC5 (GCSE):  five topics (literary, historical, visual arts etc) are studied.

SFC1 (AS) two topics are studied chosen from Homer’s Odyssey and Society, Roman Society and Thought, Greek Tragedy in its Context.

SFC2 (A2) two topics are studied chosen from Art and Architecture in the Greek World, Comic Drama in the Ancient World, Virgil and the world of the hero.

Classical Greek

LC3: progressive engagement with Greek syntax and accidence through Greek to GCSE Book 1 (Taylor).

UC4/UC5 (GCSE): continued engagement with Greek syntax and accidence through Greek to GCSE Books 1 and 2 (Taylor).  One prose text and one verse text are studied.

SFC1 (AS and IB): Two literature texts are studied.  Language work features consolidation and extension of knowledge and translation work of increasing difficulty.

SFC 2 (AS and IB): Two literature texts are studied.  Language work features consolidation and extension of knowledge and translations and comprehensions of increasing difficulty.

Latin

LC2 and 3 We follow the Cambridge Latin Course. This involves language work of increasing difficulty and the study of aspects of Roman society. Latin is optional from LC3 onwards.

UC4 and 5 (GCSE) Two set texts: one prose, one verse and language work of increasing difficulty.

SFC1 (AS and IB): Two literature texts are studied.  Language work features consolidation and extension of knowledge and translation work of increasing difficulty.

SFC 2 (AS and IB): Two literature texts are studied.  Language work features consolidation and extension of knowledge and  translations and comprehensions of increasing difficulty.
