Curriculum Summaries

History

 

Lower College

In the first three years in College girls study aspects of British, European, American and world history from the Norman Conquest to the twentieth century.

 

Upper College

Girls who have chosen to study History GCSE look at International Relations from 1918 to 1989, with a particular focus on Germany and Russia.  Girls starting History at GCSE in 2009 are studying for the IGCSE.

 

SFC

The department offers two routes to A Level: 

British and American history – this course looks at American history from ‘Civil War to Civil Rights’ and at British history from 1906-2007.

Revolutions – this course looks at Renaissance and Reformation Europe in broad outline and the English and French Revolutions in more depth, considering their consequences and implications.

 

In addition, the department also teaches the IB.  The course looks at modern European and world history, including studies of the Cold War and of dictators such as Mao, Castro, Hitler and Stalin.
