Annual Rowing Dinner

On 28 April the CLC rowers, coaches and parents congregated for our annual dinner where we reflected and celebrated a year of racing, training and well-earned achievement.

With team-work being such a vital part of our sport, the dinner, as usual, was a great opportunity to bring together girls from UC4 to SFC2 while enjoying wonderful food put on by the catering department. We were lucky enough to welcome our guest speaker Zoe de Toledo, the coxswain of the Oxford crew from the Boat Race this year. Zoe coxed at St Paul’s Girls’ School before going on to Oxford Brookes University and is currently undertaking a masters degree in psychology at the University of Oxford. She spoke to us with great vigor and enthusiasm about her experiences of rowing, giving us both the encouragement to strive for the best we can achieve and reminding us of the inevitable challenges and obstacles that always lie ahead.

After such an inspiring talk the evening finished in the light-hearted and good spirited way it began with the presentation of various awards including very impressive sculptures awarded by Mr Scrivener that, I am sure, will remain eminent in our minds for years to come! The dinner was a memorable and highly enjoyable evening and we are very grateful to Ms Jardine-Young both for joining us on the night and for her continual support of rowing at CLC.
