Literature Festival 2017

As the strategic partner of Cheltenham Festivals (Jazz, Science, Music and Literature), College once again had a very busy Literature Festival. The Opening Night Party for speakers and sponsors was held in our Princess Hall and a group of Guild members who are journalists, authors and broadcasters met current girls ahead of it. Two of them, Robin Stevens (2006) and Emily Koch (2003), were speaking at the festival itself, as were three other Guild members, Cherry Healey (1999), Jenny Uglow (1964), and Ellie Austin (2008).

We sponsored four events; Blood and Words: The Poetry of War with Harry Enfield and Alison Steadman, Tom Daley, Speeches that shape the world with Philip Collins and Sarah Outen: To London via the World. Girls from College introduced each of these events and we distributed over 600 tickets to them for other sought-after talks.

We also sponsored the 'Book Stand' in Montpellier Gardens, which provided sofas and a book swap area, as well as a location for pop up events and interviews throughout the festival.

We hosted four speakers in College this year; author Philip Reeve and illustrator Sarah McIntyre spoke to Lower College, Dr Robin Niblett, Director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, spoke to SFC girls and historian and biographer Anne De Courcy spoke to our historians.

Tom at CLC drinks

We hosted drinks before Tom Daley's talk, for our CLC community, and were delighted to have Tom join us for this for this unique event. On the last day of the festival a number of girls also attended the sold out Hillary Clinton talk about the US election.
