Girls win places in Youth Training Choir of Great Britain
During the half term, Violet Legge and Valentina Addis auditioned for the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain. Below, Violet shares her view of the auditions.
While Valentina and I both auditioned for the National Youth Training Choir of Great Britain, I auditioned in Birmingham and Valentina auditioned in London. We were very happy to hear recently that we were successful in gaining a place.
We were both very nervous before the auditions but tried to remain calm. We had to prepare one unaccompanied piece and one accompanied piece. Valentina sang Sebben Crudele by Caldara and She Moved Through the Fair as her unaccompanied piece. I sang O Sleep why Dost Thou Leave Me by Handel, and Homeward Bound as my unaccompanied piece.
In both of our auditions, the panel only wanted to hear one minute of our pieces in order to work on aspects of the pieces with us. The judges gave us constructive criticism so we could work on our pieces with them. As well as these pieces, we had to complete some aural tests including sight singing and interval training.
Now that we have gained places in the National Youth Choir, we are extremely excited to start the course in the summer. The Training Choir South course starts after our GCSEs in the summer holidays.
