Biology Week 2018

Last week was National Biology Week and the Sixth Form Biology representatives arranged activities every break time to mark the occasion.

Monday saw the return of the annual Biology Bake Off competition, with a range of extremely creative entries, and Tuesday was the Biology Trail for both Lower College and Upper College. Wednesday was an opportunity for girls to compare their vital statistics to other species in the animal kingdom, including use of the popular blood pressure monitors and stethoscopes, and Thursday was ‘Amazing Brain Day’, where girls took part in optical illusions and particularly enjoyed the upside down glasses!

Last but not least, Friday was ‘Grow Your Own’ day, where students were given the opportunity to plant Hyacinth bulbs, or their very own ‘College’ beech tree. We are looking after their seeds and bulbs in College, and will be emailing the girls to collect their plants when we start to see signs of life.

As part of the Biology Week celebrations, students from all years have also been invited to enter the Biology photographic competition. The theme is ‘Biology is all around us’, and the submission deadline is after half term, so we hope that girls will enjoy snapping the natural world around them over the holidays. Winning entries from each division will be displayed around the Biology Department.
