On Sunday 6th October, College gathered for Sunday worship in the Princess Hall and our theme was 'Celebrating Creation'. Many churches celebrate Creationtide or Harvest at this time of year, and College joins with this tradition: however, this year we also wanted to include the important and pressing issue of climate change as part of our worship.
Our service fell into three parts. First we recognised and expressed our gratitude for the blessings we enjoy: the beauty of the created world and the rich abundance of God's provision to us. As part of this, Bukunmi and Ola created a wonderful display of fresh produce and Harvest loaves (pictured), and we were very grateful to Mrs Parker and the catering team for their part in this.
We then very intentionally focused on our responsibilities to care for the whole of the created world. By this we mean caring for one another by ensuring a just and proper sharing of the world's abundant resources, and caring for our wonderful habitat, planet Earth.
Finally, the third part of the service was a call to action! We responded to the call to care for others by collecting foodstuffs and other essentials for Cheltenham Open Door, a local charity supporting those who are homeless or sleeping rough. Then we responded to the call to care for the Earth with each boarding house offering one simple eco-pledge that we, as individuals, could easily adopt to play our part.
Suggested eco-pledges included 'One More Wear' (don't use the laundry basket as a way to tidy up - give bigger items one more wear); tea-bag composting; and reducing our online shopping to reduce emissions from transportation and packaging.
Thank you to all the girls for the amazing donations and brilliant suggestions!
