CLC at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival
CLC 'Jazzers' had a great time at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival this year. Mr Keir and Mrs Adams took fifteen girls to watch the BBC Concert Orchestra with the Guy Barker Big Band perform for BBC Radio 2's 'Friday Night is Music Night', which told the story of jazz in and around Soho, London.
The following morning, the CLC Jazz Band performed on the Free Stage to a packed audience in the sunshine! Within their twenty minute set, Helena (SFC2) sang Ray Charles' Let the Good Times Roll, Teniayo-Ola gave an energy-fuelled rendition of Ella Fitzgerald's Too Darn Hot, and then a soulful arrangement of Stevie Wonder's Superstition was masterfully sung by Regina, alongside Teniayo-Ola and Alice. The vocal pieces were interspersed with instrumental arrangements, comprising Hallelujah I Love Her So and the Count Basie classic, Flight of the Foo Birds. There were some excellent solos from Arabella (trumpet), Isabella (trumpet), Regina (alto sax) and Anastasia (tenor sax).
The Band have made fantastic progress in the past year, and the standard of their performance was excellent. It is great to be able to take part in something so important to the local community of Cheltenham, and the girls really rise to the challenge of this high-profile performance every year. A huge well done to them all!
