College welcomes Dr Rowan Williams

On 4th December, the Religious Studies and Philosophy Department welcomed Dr Rowan Williams, former Archbishop of Canterbury and current Master of Magdalene College, Cambridge.

Dr Williams spoke about the responsibility of Christian communities to engage with inter-faith work, citing the Building Bridges programme he developed as Archbishop, which has since held ecumenical and inter-faith conferences across the world, including in Sarajevo, Washington D.C. and Rome. He also spoke about the delicate balance between inter-faith work and evangelism, arguing that it is important to show respect to others' views, but also important to embrace and encourage converts.

The talk, which was attended by around 200 people, including CLC Sixth Formers and members of local church communities, was followed by a delightful supper hosted by Mrs Gregory in Elizabeth House. The supper, attended by members of the Religious Studies and Philosophy Department, sixth formers and the Principal, was marked by lively debate and chatter about the role and future of Christianity in the UK.
