Dr Joan Sadler

It is with great sadness that we hear of the death of Dr Joan Sadler, who was Principal of College from 1979-87.

She spent her final years in a nursing home in Cirencester, where she died peacefully on Friday 22nd July 2016.

Her funeral will be held at 2.00pm on Friday 5th August at St Peter’s Church, Duntisbourne Abbots. Please contact guild@cheltenhamladiescollege.org for further information.

Joan Sadler read History at Bristol University, taught at Downe House Newbury, Heriot’s Wood and Stanmore (a State grammar school where she was Senior Mistress) and was then Headmistress of Howell’s School, Denbigh for eleven years before joining Cheltenham Ladies’ College in September 1979.

She was Chairman of the Boarding Schools’ Association, a Trustee of the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges and an executive member of the Girls’ Schools’ Association.  She was also an Honorary Freewoman of the City of London and of the Drapers’ Company.
