Visit from the Right Reverend Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester

Each year in College, students are invited to consider being confirmed in the Christian church. Those being confirmed in the Church of England prepare through weekly sessions in the Quiet Room during the Spring term, with the confirmation service taking place on 4th May 2019 at Christ Church.  Candidates in the Roman Catholic church join young people across the town in being prepared at one of the local Catholic churches, and will be confirmed during a special Mass on 3rd October 2019.

Confirmation groups give students the chance to deepen their knowledge of the Christian faith, and also an opportunity to explore their own personal faith (and doubts!) in a small group before they decide whether or not to be confirmed.  It’s a time of good discussion, deep thinking, and sharing in the journey together before the marvellous celebration of the confirmation service itself.

As part of the preparation for the Church of England candidates, we were very glad to welcome the Right Reverend Rachel Treweek, Bishop of Gloucester, for supper in College on 20th March. This gave students the chance to meet Bishop Rachel ahead of the confirmation service and to chat with her about all sorts of issues. Everyone enjoyed gathering together, eating together, and sharing thoughts about the confirmation journey so far.  We finished with a Q&A, where girls were invited to ask Bishop Rachel anything at all: as usual, there were some great questions to finish the time together!

If you are a person of prayer, do pray for the girls preparing for confirmation on 4th May and those who will begin their preparation later in the year.
