Sport News - March 2018

The U12 Cheltenham & District Tournament took place on 14th March. With College having such a large squad, it was great to see how supportive the girls were so everyone could have equal court time and all contribute to winning the tournament shield.

The CLC team was first cheered on to become confident winners of Section A, beating Bournside 8-0, Balcarras 3-1, Pittville 9-1, and Tewkesbury 10-2.

The girls then carried their success even further, remaining strong throughout the semi-final and beating Pate’s Grammar School 6-1.

In the final they met Balcarras for a re-match. It was a tense game, but the superb cohesiveness of the girls, driving forwards and defensively, saw CLC win the overall tournament 6-2.

Congratulations to all the girls involved!

After an impressive display in the county and district rounds, four Lower College girls qualified to represent College at the Regional Schools Badminton Championships.

Matches were a mix of singles and doubles. The CLC team first played against Queen Elizabeth’s School, Devon, with double partners Hannah and Suamya beating their opponents 21-18. Unfortunately, the CLC team lost the other four matches, but they were closely fought nonetheless. Afterwards the CLC team played Millfield, and though they were tough opponents, CLC won 3-2.

These scores saw CLC second of their group, and they went on to compete for overall third place against Gordano. Sadly, they lost 4-1, but each match only saw a couple of points between them.

Congratulations to all the girls for reaching so far in the tournament, and delivering some fantastic performances on the court.
