Sport News - September 2017

Pre-season sport got underway this weekend. The girls were excited to be back training ahead of a busy fixture programme this season. County qualifiers, Regional tournaments, and Heads of the River are key events for the teams and we wish them all the best.

Water Polo

Over the summer, Matilda Dugdale represented the South West in water polo at the U16 inter-regional championships in Liverpool. After a swim camp in Sweden, she attended the U16 National Water Polo Academy at Lancaster University, which was an exciting and worthwhile training experience.

Felicity Elvidge represented U17 Severn Stars team at the England Netball National Performance League Tournament in Nottingham coming 7th overall, out of 12 teams. It was a four-day tournament with wins against Wasps, Team Northumbria and Loughborough.

Miss Nimmo’s summer swimming double

Distance open water swimming is often referred to as a journey of discovery, both personally and through the challenges and beauty of the natural environment. This summer, Miss Nimmo took part in two of the country’s most iconic swimming events - Brownsea Island and Coniston Water.

Undertaking the 6.5km Brownsea swim for the fifth consecutive time, Miss Nimmo retained the women’s title and lowered her own record in the near perfect conditions. Miss Nimmo’s luck continued as calm and warm weather prevailed for the 5.25-mile swim down the length of Coniston (the setting to Swallows and Amazons).

Completing the length in 1 hour 55 minutes, Miss Nimmo was the first senior swimmer home from the field of over 600 swimmers. She thoroughly recommends both of these swims to anyone who fancies swimming through some amazing scenery!
