Sports News - March 2017
The Rowing Dinner was held on Friday 3rd February with 80 girls, parents and staff members attending. The highlight of the evening was the guest speaker Matt Gotrel telling the story of his journey, from starting out in rowing to winning his Olympic Gold Medal in Rio in 2016. After dinner and speeches, there was also time for the girls to talk to Matt, to see and hold his medal and take some photos.
Last summer, Tamara Gibbons won the U17 Young British Polo Championship and has previously finished third in the overall Junior British Championships. Following this success, she has set her sights on representing her country again and has recently travelled to South Africa for an U19 Young England training camp. The training was intense and the mixed squad were really challenged over the 10-day camp.
Tamara said, "the trip was great fun and I learnt a lot of useful things that I can now apply to my game back here in England."
She is very much looking forward to training in Argentina this Easter and entering the Young British Championship this summer.
Congratulations to the Senior Aegon Team on reaching the last 16 in the Aegon Championship. Wins in the singles, by Alex Beukers and Victoria Shaw, meant a 2-2 result going into the doubles matches. In their final match they faced Millfield, who won and secured a place in the last eight, but our girls played with confidence and determination throughout. A great achievement by the senior team.
