Sports News - May and June
Cricket and Rounders
With the summer season in full swing, it has been absolutely fantastic to see so many girls involved in Cricket and Rounders. Attendance at the club has been fantastic and in recent weeks we have had House competitions in both sports.
On Saturday 8th June, almost 50 girls in both LC1 and LC2 entered teams as part of the Cricket and Rounders Festival held at Field. The girls showed fantastic team spirit and a variety of prizes were up for grabs, from 'catch of the day' to 'best team player' and 'best celebratory dance'. It was a tremendous afternoon with lots of girls developing their skills and tactics in both sports.
Parent and Daughter Tournament 2019
Also on Saturday 8th June we had one of our most enjoyable afternoons in the summer calendar at Well Place, the annual Parent and Daughter Tennis Tournament. Eighteen Mother and Daughter pairs and 22 Father and Daughter pairs battled it out for the honour of being crowned 2019 champions. Well done to all the girls and parents who took part and congratulations to Inge and Tabitha and their parent partners for being victorious.
National Schools’ Regatta
On Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th May, five CLC senior rowers competed at the National Schools Regatta at Dorney Lake. With over 5,000 junior competitors, the best crews in the UK from both clubs and schools were competing at this event.
On the Saturday, CLC had Emily competing in the championship (U18) single as well as Evie and Katherine in the championship (U18) double sculls event. Evie and Emily made it through the time trial, through the semi-final and finished a fantastic 5th in 'Final A'. This is the first time CLC has ever had a crew in the final and is a great achievement for both of the girls.
On the Sunday, a CLC crew of Za, Katherine, Evie and Alex competed in the championship quadruple sculls event. CLC finished 18th in the time trial from over 40 entries and were only 2.5 seconds off qualifying for the semi-finals.
Congratulations to Eloise and Hannah who have been selected to represent Hong Kong at the 2019 U19 World Cup.
Congratulations to the 10 athletes who competed for the Cheltenham and District Team at the Gloucestershire County Championships recently. The following girls have been selected to represent the Gloucestershire County team at the South West Championships in Exeter:
Sophie - U19 triple jump, Jess and Ola - U19 shot put, Florence - U17 high jump, Mary - U17 long jump, Lhynne - U15 discus, Adesola - U17 shot.
Adesola had a great competition, smashing her previous personal best performance and gaining the National Entry Qualifying Standard for the National Championships in Birmingham in July. Her new PB now stands at 11.94 metres.
Congratulations also go to Éire who performed well at the Cadet National Athletics last weekend. It was a very competitive event and she finished 3rd in both the long jump and the relay, and won the 200m in a new National ACF record.
On Sunday 19th May, we had a very successful South West Ski Championships with a number of CLC girls racing and performing well. Alexandra came second. Sonya won the Novice category. Fevroniya finished 3rd, and Hana won her Novice race.
Nicole was also competing at the Club National Championships at the Telford Snowboard & Ski Centre all weekend and was placed 6th and 8th in the U16 category.
The Equestrian Team has been incredibly busy over the last few weeks.
We want to celebrate every CLC rider at the various events recently.
Well done and congratulations to Matilda, Helena, Hester, Alice, Chloe, Islay, Daisy, Lily, Jaymee, Martha, Ursula, Laura, Georgie, Isabel and Eydie, to name just a few of our girls who have had a great deal of success over the last few weeks. Well done!
