Sports News - September 2018
Congratulations to the Senior 2nd lacrosse team on winning the South Wales Rally, with a superb result to start the season. Goalkeeper Nina captained the team to victory. The 2nd XII comprehensively beat Malvern St James 12-1 but had to battle the hosts, Monmouth School for Girls, to claim the trophy. In a 40-minute game that went back and forth, CLC secured the win through goals from five different players, including two U15 XII players, Eloise and JoJo. Siena netted the game-winning goal, but it was clearly a team effort and a team victory.
Congratulations to Elspeth and Vivian who came 1st and 4th respectively at the Wycliffe Novice Fencing competition. In the senior section, the girls placed 3rd and 7th, which is a superb achievement.
ISSF World Championships
Poppy gave a superb performance at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Championships in Korea, finishing 7th individually in the U21 section. In the women’s event, Poppy and her team qualified for the final. They achieved a well-deserved silver medal, beaten only by the hugely experienced German team.
Discover your Gold
Discover Your Gold, a national programme run by UK Sport, aims to find young athletes and test their Olympic potential in five chosen sports (speed skating, skeleton, rugby, rowing and cycling). Sixth Form pupil Phoebe was delighted to be selected to trial for this amazing opportunity.
Over 2,500 people were selected to trial across 10 different venues around the UK. Her trial day, which was in Lee Valley Athletics Centre in London, was very intense with a lot of physical and mental fitness tests. Well done to Phoebe on her achievement.
