Spring Concert 2018
This year’s Spring Concert was staged at the beautiful Cheltenham concert venue, Pittville Pump Room. The varied programme brought together the Symphony Orchestra, a Chamber Orchestra and CLC’s community Choral Society.
Girls, staff and parents enjoyed the wonderful acoustic in the elegant Pump Room. The orchestra was in fine form, presenting a richly colourful interpretation of Smetana’s popular tone poem, Vltava. Soloists in SFC2 excelled with wonderful performances of the Bruch Violin Concerto (Finale), Chopin’s 1st Piano Concerto (Third Movement) and Marcello’s Oboe Concerto in D minor. Congratulations to the soloists, Faith, Yuka and Kehinde.
The chamber orchestra accompanied a new work Time and Eternity, by our Director of Music, which made creative use of the Pump Room’s space. Our superb SFC2 soloists, Freya, Arabella, Katrina and Kehinde, were stationed on the balcony, high above the orchestra and choir.
To end the concert, the chamber orchestra accompanied four vocal soloists and the Choral Society in a spirited performance of Chandos Anthem No.9 by Handel. Congratulations to Julia, SFC2, who sang solo soprano, and to Mr Parker, who sang the bass solo.
Choral Society comprises girls from UC4 upwards, members of staff from across College, parents, friends and Guild Members. They performed excellently, with real commitment and tremendous energy.
The programme was conducted by our Director of Music, Mr Dominic Hawley.
