The National Graduate Careers Conference
Just before Half Term, Marieli Mooney, Careers and Work Experience Manager, and Justine Hale, Higher Education Advice Manager, attended The National Graduate Careers Conference in London, organised by High Fliers Research.
The purpose of the annual conference is to update careers advisers on the graduate job market and current trends. Talks were on graduate recruitment, graduate programmes, apprenticeships and how technology is changing jobs.
Companies represented at the event, and that we took the opportunity to network with, included Barclays, Eversheds Sutherland, Frontline, JLL, Marks & Spencer, NHS and PwC.
During the afternoon sessions, as the representative for Independent Schools, Mrs Mooney sat on the panel discussing careers guidance in schools and Sixth Form colleges. She had been invited to do so by the conference organisers, following their recent research into how the country’s leading schools provide guidance on careers and university entrance.
The day was a great opportunity to network with companies and fellow careers advisers. It was also a good opportunity to hear more about the move towards digital-based recruitment, the importance of internships in preparation for graduate employment, the growth of higher and degree apprenticeships, and the changing nature of jobs with the increase in the use of digital technology.
