UC4 Art Trip
On Monday 1st July, UC4 art students visited the BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery and the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy of Arts.
We started the day at the BP Portrait Award, the most prestigious portrait painting competition in the world which represents the very best in contemporary portrait painting. Many of the girls are studying portraiture as part of their GCSE coursework projects and were mesmerised by the array of styles exhibited from hyperrealism to expressive, gestural painting approaches.
We then walked to the Royal Academy, where the Summer Exhibition did not disappoint! It is the world's largest open-submission art show and brings together art in all mediums – prints and paintings, film, photography, sculpture, architectural works and more – by leading artists, Royal Academicians and household names, as well as new and emerging talent. The girls were in awe from the moment they walked into the gallery as artworks of all scales and genres are hung from floor to ceiling, demanding your attention and creating an immersive environment.
UC4 truly enjoyed the trip and found it extremely worthwhile as it provided them with inspiration for their current projects as well as giving them the opportunity to see artworks up close, which is vital for their creative development.
