Upcycled Fashion Show 2019

Now a well-established event in the College calendar, the 2019 Upcycled Fashion Show was a joyful and inspirational evening, with students, staff and visitors marvelling at the creativity and ingenuity of the outfits on display.

There were nearly 30 entries, all of which showed an amazing degree of skill and gave the judges some very difficult decisions!

The winning 'Trashion' garment was an amazing futuristic sci-fi-inspired cardboard and foil crinoline and bodice, created by Ashley (UC4) – this was as much a feat of engineering as design!

In the 'Upcycled' category, the winner was Amelie (LC3), who turned her grandfather's suit and tie collection into a stunning skirt and patchwork jacket.

In the House Trashion competition, there were joint winners: St Clare and Glenlee. Both houses chose to create angel wings to accompany a dramatic plastic bag ballgown and a stunning skirt made from tampa rings.

There was also a contribution from staff for the first time, with a team of sewers (some more experienced than others) upcycling old College uniform into an incredibly punk-inspired outfit for Dr Gamblin, Head of Upper College.

My thanks to the judges: Sixth Former Katie, Christina Pettigrew and Ameilia Lockey, and to Sweaty Betty and Caroline Charles for their generous prizes.
