Visit from author Philip Reeve and illustrator Sarah McIntyre

Friday 6th October was somewhat different for Lower College girls. Instead of making their way as usual to the Houses, a special picnic lunch was arranged and girls thoroughly enjoyed the chance to linger at College and relax in groups before heading to Lower Hall for an exciting event.

As they made their way to the venue, girls had glimpses of bestselling author Philip Reeve and illustrator Sarah McIntyre; it was impossible to miss the pair who arrived in a blaze of colour and creativity!

Sarah McIntyre, known for her vibrant style and fascinating head-wear, captivated everyone as she swept into the hall, packed with enthusiastic girls. This brilliant impression made at the start continued throughout a lively and interesting discussion, and the girls were thrilled to have the chance to listen to Philip and Sarah being interviewed and also to ask many questions about their lives and work.

Both speakers talked about individual projects, as well as occasions when they have worked together on books. There was so much to convey in a limited time and girls were bursting with curiosity about so many aspects of their work. It was exciting to learn that Reeve’s Mortal Engines is to be released as a film next year, produced by Peter Jackson. Everyone in the audience was inspired by our visitors’ creativity and evident enjoyment of their craft.

Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre certainly left CLC on Friday with many more admirers and all the girls very much enjoyed having chance to meet them.
