Recognising potential -
Rewarding excellence

Scholarships at Cheltenham Ladies’ College are designed to recognise students with exceptional ability, curiosity and commitment.

Become a scholar

Available at 11+, 13+ and 16+

Academic Scholars are curious, thoughtful and ambitious. Our bespoke programme supports their intellectual, cultural and personal development, encouraging them to think independently and explore ideas in depth.

At 11+ and 13+, all applicants are considered, with selected candidates invited to further assessment.

At 16+, students apply directly on their Entrance Exam Form and shortlisted candidates attend an assessment day in November of Year 11.

Available at 13+ and 16+

Art Scholarships recognise creativity, curiosity and passion across a range of media.

Scholars exhibit their work regularly and engage with galleries, exhibitions and visiting speakers. Many continue their artistic journey beyond College.

Assessment includes a portfolio and practical task. (There are no Art Scholarships at 11+, but opportunities are available to apply for internal scholarships at the end of Lower College.)

Music Scholarships

Available at 11+, 13+ and 16+

Music Scholars bring energy, discipline and a genuine love of music. They display a natural musicianship and play a central role in ensembles and performances across College.

Assessment includes performance, aural tests and interview. While there is no formal minimum standard, most successful candidates are working at the following ABRSM levels in their principal study:

  • 11+/Year 7: Grade 4 +

  • 13+/Year 9: Grade 5 +

  • 16+/Sixth Form: Grade 7 +

Organ Scholarship

Available at 16+

A distinctive opportunity for promising organists. Candidates should have Grade 6+ keyboard skills, preferably with confident sight-reading ability, and previous experience playing or studying the organ.

Organ Scholars follow a specialist programme, working closely with the College Organist and contributing to College music. The role offers extensive performance opportunities and preparation for university-level study.

Available at 13+ and 16+

Sports Scholars lead with commitment and integrity, representing College across multiple teams and often playing at county level or beyond.

They are supported by expert coaching and play an active role in mentoring younger students. Assessment includes practical performance and interview.

(There are no Sport Scholarships at 11+, but opportunities to develop are supported in the early years and there are opportunities to apply for internal scholarships at the end of Lower College.)

There is no cookie‑cutter perfect scholar… as long as you’re authentic and have a passion and drive to learn, that’s what really matters.”
