Volunteering and Fundraising

Compassion to Care

At CLC, charitable activities aren’t an added extra - they are central to what we do. Each year, pupils dedicate over 3,200 hours of volunteering in the community and supporting a range of charities, including the Guild-founded St Hilda's East Community Centre.

With the support and guidance of our Social Action Mentor and Partnerships Administrator, students are encouraged to take action through volunteering, fundraising and spreading awareness for vital causes.

Through our Community Links scheme, pupils volunteer locally by reading to children, performing music for the elderly, building bird boxes, mentoring refugees and sorting at the Food Bank.

Each year, students and staff select two main charities to support over a two‑year period. This approach helps us build meaningful, long‑term partnerships and gives pupils the opportunity to deepen their understanding of each organisation’s work.

Our Charities

Longfield Hospice provides care for adults in Gloucestershire living with a life-limiting condition and support for their loved ones and carers. They provide this for free, every day of the year and rely on voluntary donations to make it possible.

This charity develops innovative services with and for young carers. They focus on two crucial areas:

1. Direct Services for Young Carers

Through collaborative efforts with other organisations, the charity provides a wide range of essential services for young carers. Their aim is to create opportunities for rest, fun, skill development, and support.

2. Support for Professionals

The charity works with professionals and commissioners, equipping them with the knowledge and resources needed to better address the unique needs of young carers.

Our permanent charity: Founded by Guild in 1889, this multi-purpose community centre caters for all sections of the local community in the East End of London.

Support CLC’s Head of College to raise funds

Our Head of College, Mrs Jemima Edney, will be running the London Marathon on 26th April to fundraise for our incredible charity partner St Hilda’s East (SHE).

In support, we are also hosting a CLC-SHE event on Saturday 25th April. Students and staff will be running 112 miles, equivalent to the distance from CLC to SHE, around the school grounds. The House with the most miles will win the St Hilda’s East CLC Cup.

More information about the CLC-SHE event and Mrs Edney’s London Marathon fundraising will follow, with opportunities for parents, guardians, alumnae and other members of the community to sponsor the pupils and support Mrs Edney.

Volunteering in the local community gives our girls the opportunity to learn what it means to be a vital and compassionate member of society. They learn to value, serve and enrich their community in a way that will stay with them forever.
