Celebrating MFL Successes
Last week saw some brilliant successes across MFL competitions, including the Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators, the Routes Into Languages Translation Bee and the Oxford University 2026 French Flash Fiction competition.
Anthea Bell Prize for Young Translators
Students across LC3, UC4 and SFC1 took part in the annual competition inspired by the life and work of the renowned translator Anthea Bell that promotes language learning and creativity in the classroom. This year saw over 25,000 students take part, with over 5,400 entries judged. Judges praised the exceptionally high standard of entries and noted how challenging it was to select winners and commendations.
We’re proud to share our High Commendations: Kate (Spanish, UC4), Hermione (French, LC3), Hana (Mandarin, LC3), Alexia, Tara and Ursula (Italian, UC4), alongside German Area Winners (South-West) Daphne (LC1) and Chloe (SFC1).
Well done, all!
Routes Into Languages Translation Bee
Two of our LC3 students, Hana and Chloe, took part in the southern regional heat of the Routes Into Languages Translation Bee at the University of Bath last week. They only had one minute to translate as many sentences as possible from English into French. Both girls performed superbly, coming in second and third, and making it through to the final, which will take place at the University of Cambridge next week.
Well done, all!
Oxford University French Flash Fiction Competition
Cindy (LC3) was crowned the winner of Oxford University’s 2026 French Flash Fiction competition for the Years 7-9 category.
Well done, Cindy!
