Wizard’s Den Computing Challenge

Wizard’s Den Computing Challenge

Thanks to their inspiring teacher, Mrs Henry, LC1 Students were challenged to develop an inventive response to demonstrate their computing skills in last week’s magical Wizard’s Den Challenge.

Students were encouraged to step into the magical world of the Wizard’s Den, transforming into budding witches and wizards as they designed imaginative, Harry‑Potter‑themed businesses. This culminated in a charming Harry Potter-themed ‘Dragons’ Den’ competition, and we were all very impressed with the LC1s’ achievements!

Having been given the data for a variety of Harry Potter businesses, LC1s worked in groups, entering data into Excel. They proved their ability to organise the data, calculate finances, and explore the mysteries of income, expenditure, and overall profit or loss.

The LC1s then analysed the data and used it to produce a PowerPoint in their groups to present to the class. They created marvellous pie charts, bar charts and magical narratives to endeavour to win the attention of the Wizards on the judging panel: Wizard Webb (Head of Computing Science), Wizard Ratinckx (Head of Economics), and Wizardess Woodhead (Head of LC).

The event was a creative and captivating way to develop skills in computing, economics and business for our youngest students. We certainly have some promising entrepreneurs in our midst – watch out, world!
