Junior Boarding Houses
Junior Houses
A welcoming community
Our Junior Houses are home to students aged 11–16. They are lively, welcoming communities where younger boarders quickly find their place and develop a strong sense of belonging.
Junior Houses are led by experienced Houseparents and supported by residential staff who live within the house community. They ensure every student feels supported, safe and encouraged, and our Houses quickly become second homes - places filled with friendships, laughter and shared experiences.
Learning independence
Students share comfortable living spaces and spend time together studying, relaxing and taking part in house activities. Evenings often include prep, time with friends and opportunities to join co-curricular activities.
House staff help students develop the practical skills and confidence needed for boarding life, from organising their time to managing their responsibilities, with increasing levels of independence.

"I was thrilled to be appointed as Houseparent of Farnley Lodge in January 2019. I have been a Houseparent for four years, so understand the intricacies of boarding and all that it entails. It is a role that I thoroughly enjoy. Prior to this I had worked in schools in Cheshire and London. In my spare time I love to go travelling and also enjoy walking, particularly coastal.
"Farnley Lodge is a House where every girl is valued and encouraged to reach her full potential. There is a team of dedicated, experienced and caring House Staff, who help and support the girls and make Farnley the happy and lively community that it is."
Katharine Thomas, Houseparent
“I am an experienced Houseparent, and have enjoyed pastoral roles in boarding schools throughout my career. I very much enjoy playing a small part in the journeys of young people, sharing their successes and supporting more challenging times too.
Glenlee is a vibrant community that values empathy and tolerance. Glenlee girls are thoughtful and ambitious and understand that excellence and kindness can go hand in hand. Glenlee provides a 'home-from-home' atmosphere and the experienced staff team ensure that each member of the House feels properly known, understood and valued.
The Glenlee community is fun-loving and enjoys embracing opportunity and getting involved in everything, from House competitions and events to whole school initiatives.”
Mrs Claire Jenkinson, Houseparent
"I joined CLC in 2013 as Houseparent of Sidney Lodge, having already worked as Houseparent for five years at a girls' boarding school in Wales. I took an extended maternity break from my role in 2018 to look after my two boys. As a family, we have all moved back to Cheltenham and we are looking forward to the new adventures ahead.
Sidney Lodge is a welcoming and homely boarding house with around 70 pupils. We have an amazing team of experienced staff who support the girls in their day-to-day life. We reside in a purpose-built boarding house, and are one of the closest junior boarding houses to College.
The Sidney Lodge values are trust, honesty, respect and consideration for others. Upholding these values promotes a happy and productive atmosphere which allows all the girls in Sidney Lodge to grow and learn."
Mrs Susan Godfrey, Houseparent
"I joined College in September 2016 as Head of English and moved into the role of Houseparent of St Austin's in January 2024. Having started my teaching career in Oxfordshire, I then taught and worked in boarding at an international school in Hong Kong.
St Austin's is one of College's oldest boarding houses and has been in its present location since 1933. It is a warm, welcoming and supportive boarding house where staff and students enjoy living in a homely environment full of kindness and fun.
I live in St Austin's with my husband and our dog, Mabel, who adores all the fuss, love and treats she receives from the students!”
Mrs Laura Siller, Houseparent
"I joined College in September 2008 as Houseparent of St Margaret’s and thoroughly enjoyed my six years in post. I then taught PE for seven years including the role of Head of Netball. I continue to teach senior netball which I absolutely love and it is great to see the girls in a different environment.
I became Houseparent of St Helen's in September 2021 and I love getting to know the girls, their families (plus pets!) and pride myself on creating a calm, supportive environment in which everyone can air their thoughts or concerns.
St Helen's is blessed with a wonderful cohort of staff with vast amounts of experience. We all work together to create an environment where the girls can really thrive."
Ms Karin Passmore, Houseparent
"I am delighted to be Housemistress of St Margaret's, a fitting role given my Scottish roots. With a background in teaching History and Politics, my recent focus has been on pastoral care. My husband, Bill, is also a historian.
I aim to build strong relationships with the girls and their families, promoting integrity and kindness. I believe in the benefits of boarding life and enjoy witnessing the academic, musical, and sporting successes of the girls. My goal is to ensure all the girls in my care feel known, valued, and happy, enabling them to make the most of their opportunities at CLC."
