On Wednesday 8th October, CLC welcomed Air Marshal Dame Sue Gray, who shared inspiring insights from her remarkable career in the Royal Air Force.
She reflected on her journey from joining the RAF in 1985 to becoming the most senior female officer in the British Armed Forces and the first female three-star officer, leading thousands of personnel in roles such as Air Officer, Commanding No. 38 Group and Director General of the Defence Safety Authority.
Dame Gray spoke about overcoming challenges, making difficult decisions under pressure, and the importance of resilience and teamwork. She also highlighted some of her achievements, including being appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE), being made a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE), and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering.
She encouraged students to aim high, embrace opportunities, and develop both technical skills and personal integrity. As a passionate advocate for STEM and mentoring, she emphasised curiosity, perseverance, and learning from setbacks as key tools for success, leaving everyone motivated to take on challenges and make a positive impact in the future.
