Last week, we welcomed Clare Balding to College for two increadible talks. Read on for highlights from Sixth Form pupils and Mrs Isaac, Social Action Mentor.
One of Britain’s most respected broadcasters and journalists, Clare is widely known for her coverage of major sporting events, including eight Olympic and five Paralympic Games, as well as hosting Wimbledon and appearing on BBC programmes such as Celebrity Traitors. She is also a successful author of ten books.
During her visit, Clare shared reflections on her career, speaking openly about confidence, resilience, and the importance of finding and staying true to your own voice. Students were particularly inspired by her honesty about the challenges behind her achievements, as well as her encouragement to embrace opportunities and pursue ambitions with determination.
The visit was an engaging and memorable experience for all who attended, and we are very grateful to Clare for her time, insight, and generosity in sharing her story with our school community.

Later in the day, we also supported Longfield Hospice’s ‘An Evening with Clare Balding’ event. By partnering with Longfield Community Hospice, our College Charity, we helped raise vital funds for Hospice at Home and Bereavement Support services. From her life in a racing yard to commentating on the King’s Coronation and the Olympics, Clare Balding’s 30-year career is nothing short of extraordinary. She was utterly charming, and it’s safe to say she has a lot of new fans at CLC. Many thanks to Longfield Hospice for organising a wonderful fundraising event.
