Ash Saturday Service 2026
11th March 2026

On Saturday, we came together as a community for an Ash Saturday Whole College Service, featuring beautiful music from the choir, thoughtful readings, and heartfelt prayers.

Although the Christian season of Lent began during half term, we still felt it was important to gather as a community and reflect again on what a season of repentance, prayer, and fasting can mean. We were therefore delighted that Bishop Rachel was able to join us to give the talk and assist with the administering of the ashes.

The ashes - a simple cross on the forehead - are given with the words: “You are dust, and to dust you will return. Turn from your sins and be faithful to Christ.”

Whilst these words will hold profoundly different meanings for many of our pupils, the invitation remains one of humble gratitude for the gift of life and a turning towards all that seeks to bring life in all its fullness.

“For now the winter is past, the rain is over and gone. The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing has come.”

— The Bible
