Taking part in a student exchange programme is one of the most enriching experiences for language learners. For German students visiting the UK, and British students heading to Germany, it’s a chance to bring classroom learning to life. We are proud to be able to offer this opportunity to our students here at CLC.
Communication skills improve rapidly when students are immersed in real-life conversations. Whether asking for directions, ordering food, or chatting with their exchange partners, learners gain confidence and fluency. Intercultural understanding also deepens: students discover how others live, think, and celebrate.
This year’s exchange was full of memorable moments. Our students were introduced to the quirky German social media trend of eating pudding with a fork, enjoying a classic Dr Oetker Götterspeise. Students also took part in a treasure hunt around Cheltenham, discovering new reads at Waterstones, and sampling UK-only treats from M&S before sitting down to a proper cream tea.
“I really enjoyed this week, because everyone was very kind to us and included us. It was also very nice to get to know British culture.”
Katharina
“I thought this week was incredibly nice. We met so many new and lovely people and experienced such great things.”
Anna
“I found this week great, because we were always greeted warmly in lessons and lessons were a lot of fun.”
Sophia
Everyone got on brilliantly, there was lots of laughter, new friendships, and plenty of new vocabulary learned along the way. Exchanges like this don’t just teach language, they build bridges, and we really look forward to the trip to Mainz this December.
