Across a range of disciplines and industries, our alumnae are applying their expertise to drive innovation, lead meaningful change and inspire the next generation of women in STEM. We are delighted to showcase some of their achievements and to celebrate the global impact our alumnae continue to make.
From leading MI6, assessing earthquake damage in Turkey and Syria, and combatting misinformation on fertility and endometriosis, to wearable technology for breast cancer patients, their work spans pioneering research, cutting‑edge technology and leadership roles in some of the world’s most influential organisations.
Dr Amalina Bakri
Dr Amalina Bakri works with Public Health England (NHS), No. 10 Downing Street, and Team Halo (Initiative by the UN) on the vaccine campaigns.
As such, she has been involved in promoting the nationwide rollout of the new chickenpox vaccine, which now offers children protection against chickenpox as part of the free routine NHS childhood vaccinations.
Dr Amalina Bakri also received her PhD in October 2025, with research focused on wearable technology and how it can help patients recover after breast cancer surgery.
CLC 2005 – 2007, Beale
Blaise Metreweli
The current Head of MI6, Blaise Metreweli, has given her first public speech since taking up the role in 2025.
In her speech, she highlighted that Britain is caught in “a space between peace and war”. She spoke about the rise of AI and other technologies dominated by powerful individuals and corporations, with a focus on how emerging technologies are “rewriting the reality of conflict as they converge to create science-fiction like tools”.
Blaise Metreweli is the first female leader of the Secret Intelligence Service.
CLC 1989 – 1993, Fauconberg and St Helens’s
Dr Emily So
Dr Emily So is a chartered civil engineer and Director of the Cambridge University Centre for Risk in the Built Environment (CURBE). She is currently the Deputy Head of the School of Arts and Humanities and an Associate Director of the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership.
In recent years, she co-led The Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (EEFIT), carrying out essential field work to assess the damage of the 2023 Türkiye and Syria earthquakes and develop suggestions to reduce future impacts and vulnerabilities.
In 2025, she co-edited the Special Issue: Alternative Data Collection and Analysis Methods for Disaster Reconnaissance of the Bulletin of Earthquake Engineering Journal, co-authoring a review of the same title.
CLC 1988 – 1995, Fauconberg and Beale
Dr Olivia Ahn
Dr Olivia Ahn is the founder of Fluus, the world’s first and only certified flushable and biodegradable sanitary pad. The London‑based personal hygiene start‑up is on a mission to make sustainable living easier, offering consumers a guilt‑free, planet‑friendly alternative for managing their period.
In 2025, Fluus reached a major milestone when it officially launched in 150 Boots stores across the UK. This expansion marked the company’s shift from an independent disruptor to a nationwide solution, setting new standards for the period‑care industry and paving the way for truly sustainable products to enter the mainstream market.
In November 2025, Dr Olivia Ahn was also interviewed by Marie Claire about diagnosis delays, misconceptions about fertility, and living with endometriosis.
CLC 2006 – 2016, St Austin’s and St Hilda’s
Harriet Lester
Last year, Harriet Lester joined Pioneer Group as an Associate on the Ventures Team, where she supports early‑stage life sciences founders through the Launch Venture Programme. Pioneer Group is the UK and Ireland’s largest investor and operator of life sciences campuses, providing infrastructure, capital, and hands‑on support to accelerate scientific innovation.
Harriet is also the founder of VitaeGUM, a vitamin‑infused chewing gum designed to deliver essential nutrition while improving oral health outcomes in refugee communities.
Beyond her entrepreneurial and investment work, Harriet is a regular speaker at events and workshops. Most recently, she delivered an OX1 Biotech Masterclass, sharing insights from her operational and investing experience in early‑stage biotech ventures.
CLC 2005 – 2012, Bellairs and Bayshill
Dr Alexandra Feeman
In November 2025, Hertford College, University of Oxford, announced the appointment of Dr Alexandra Freeman, Baroness Freeman of Steventon, as its next Principal - the first woman ever to hold the role in the College’s history.
Dr Freeman studied Zoology at New College before completing a DPhil at Linacre College, after which she embarked on a 17‑year career producing natural history and science documentaries for the BBC. Her body of work includes acclaimed productions such as Walking with Beasts, Life in the Undergrowth, and Bang Goes the Theory, among many others. Her contributions to science media have earned significant recognition, including a BAFTA and the AAAS Kavli Gold Award for science journalism.
CLC 1985 – 1991, St Austin’s/ Glengar and Bayshill
Dr Gwen Adshead
Dr Gwen Adshead is a leading forensic psychiatrist and psychotherapist, trained at St George’s, the Institute of Psychiatry and the Institute of Group Analysis, who has spent the past three decades working across the NHS in prisons and secure hospitals such as Broadmoor.
She has published over 100 academic works, holds an MA in Medical Law and Ethics and an honorary doctorate, and has held roles including Visiting Professor at Yale and Gresham College Professor of Psychiatry. Dr Adshead is also the co‑author of the Sunday Times bestseller The Devil You Know: Encounters in Forensic Psychiatry.
Thursday 26th February marked the publication of her latest book, Unspeakable: Survival and Transformation After Trauma, a powerful new work that draws on her decades of clinical experience, inviting readers into the consulting room and illuminating the profound journeys of healing and resilience that unfold after trauma.
CLC 1971 – 1978, Farnley Lodge and Eversleigh
Antigone Loudiadis
Luxembourg-based company OCSiAl has announced the appointment of Antigone Loudiadis as a Director. Previously, she founded and led Rothesay Life and was a partner at Goldman Sachs International and co-head of its European Investment Banking Division.
OCSiAl is the world’s largest producer of graphene nanotubes, with a mission to improve specific properties of all base materials, making the world a better place for all living beings.
CLC 1974 – 1980, Cambray
Victoria Steele
Victoria Steele, the first female Superintendent Pharmacist at LloydsPharmacy and former Clinical Director & Chief Pharmacist at Hallo Healthcare Group, is a Royal Pharmaceutical Society Fellow and a prominent leader in community pharmacy. She was a founding member and Vice Chair of the Community Pharmacy Patient Safety Group before serving as Chair from 2021 to 2023, driving national safety standards and initiatives across the sector.
In 2025, she founded STEELIER LTD, an advisory consultancy that leads responses to critical incidents and regulatory crises for pharmacy clients, while also supporting strategic planning and the delivery of ambitious, innovative healthcare projects.
Earlier this month, she appeared as a guest on the Chemist + Druggist Pharmacy in Person Podcast, where she shared her journey from pharmacy school to entrepreneurship, reflecting on the importance of mentorship, leadership responsibility, and the challenges and triumphs that have shaped her career.
