Chinese New Year Week 2026
12th February 2026

What a spectacular week it has been! Our community came together to celebrate the Lunar New Year with enthusiasm, creativity, and plenty of festive spirit. It was a joy to see students and staff alike embrace the traditions, try new things, and most importantly - have fun!

Here’s a glimpse of how we celebrated, the laughter we shared, and the prizes we gave away along the way.

🏮 Monday – Lantern Riddle Challenge

The week kicked off with a burst of colour and curiosity along the MFL Corridor, where red lanterns set the scene. Students eagerly picked up riddles, solved them, and submitted their answers. All correct entries walked away with a Chinese snack goodie bag - a sweet start to the week!

🥟 Tuesday – Lucky Draws & Dumpling Delights

Tuesday brought double the fun. During morning break, students flocked to the MFL corridor to say “谢谢 Xièxiè” and receive their raffle tickets - with Chinese characters replacing numbers! The lucky draw took place during Thursday’s prayer, and three winners were thrilled to collect their prizes at the end.

Meanwhile, select LC3 students rolled up their sleeves in the Food Technology Room for a hands-on dumpling-making workshop. They folded, pinched, and shaped their way to freshly made dumplings, then proudly took them home to share with friends.

👘 Wednesday – Quizzes & Costume Runway

Wednesday was all about brains and beauty. During tutor time, students tested their knowledge with a China-themed quiz. Full-mark scorers received well-deserved goodie bags - proof that learning can be both fun and rewarding!

At lunchtime, Marble Corridor became a dressing room fit for royalty. Students tried on traditional Hanfu and Qipao, then strutted down the Marble Corridor runway, bringing ancient fashion back to life. Every participant took home a goodie bag and a Chinese culture badge.

🎬 Thursday – Prayers & Movie Night

Thursday’s Chinese New Year Prayers was a heartfelt highlight. The PH was beautifully decorated with red lanterns and New Year banners. IB Chinese students led the presentation, while LC1 students delivered a graceful performance on stage - truly well done! A special highlight was the UC4 film production, titled “Uncle Sai Lost His Horse and Its Modern Twist.” It was a beautiful moment of reflection and celebration.

That evening, S109 was transformed into a cosy cinema for our Chinese Movie Night, featuring the animated hit Ne Zha. With popcorn, rice crackers, cushions, and even a giant panda soft toy, students settled in for a magical night of storytelling and snacks.

🧦 Friday – Red Socks Day

We closed the week on a vibrant note with Red Socks Day. Across the school, students and staff wore red socks to symbolise good luck, happiness, and prosperity. A sea of red feet and smiles brought the week to a cheerful close.

🏆 Mascot Competition Winner

We were absolutely blown away by the 20 creative entries to our CNY Week Mascot Competition. After much deliberation in the department, we are delighted to announce the winner, Ariana (LC2)

Her charming horse mascot, “马福 (Mǎ Fú)” meaning “Horse of Happiness”, won us over with its warmth, personality, and festive flair.

Ariana collected her special goodie bag, and all participants received a red envelope as a token of appreciation. Well done to everyone who entered - your creativity truly shone!

💌 A Heartfelt Thank You

To our students, staff, and families - thank you for making this year’s Chinese New Year Week so memorable. Whether you solved a riddle, wore red socks, or simply cheered from the sidelines, your participation brought the celebrations to life.

We wish you and your loved ones a joyful, healthy, and prosperous Year of the Horse. 🐎🧧
