Pupils at Cheltenham Ladies’ College are celebrating their International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma results today, following two years of hard work in the midst of the global pandemic and some exceptionally challenging circumstances.
The IB Class of 2022 have secured places to study at a range of world-leading universities across the UK, including Cambridge, Imperial, LSE and Oxford, as well as UCLA in the US, and UBC and McGill in Canada.
University courses range from Psychology and Linguistics at Oxford, Biomedical Science at KCL and Liberal Arts (with Study Abroad) at Exeter, to Law at Cambridge, English Literature at Durham and Medicine at Bristol.
CLC pupils have achieved an average of 41.5 points, a UCAS tariff equivalent of more than four A* grades at A Level. This year’s UK national average is 36.35 points.
Five CLC pupils, Anastasia, Lizzie, Annika, Elena and Avery, have achieved the highest possible grade of 45 points out of 45. A further six pupils, Sophie, Anastasia, Lok, Athena, Larissa and Kristen, achieved a grade of 44 points out of 45.
The IB Diploma involves assessment in a total of six Higher and Standard level subjects, and further 10 students, have achieved full marks in all three of their Higher Level subjects.
Principal Eve Jardine-Young said:
“I am incredibly proud of our pupils, not only for achieving these excellent results, but also for the way that they have managed the ongoing impact of the pandemic on their learning. During two years of changes, including the many shifts between digital, hybrid, and in-person learning, the pupils have been mature and dedicated in their approach, and staff have been responsive, supportive and calm throughout.”
The opportunity to study the IB Diploma Programme adds a great deal to the distinctive education at CLC. Earlier this year the school was named the top boarding school in the UK and top girls boarding school in the world for the IB.
