Cheltenham Ladies’ College is delighted to have been named Top Independent School in the South West for the third year running, according to the Sunday Times Parent Power Guide 2023, which ranks independent schools in the UK based on their public exam results.
Principal Eve Jardine-Young said:
“I am delighted that Cheltenham Ladies’ College has come top of the South West rankings for the third year in a row. This is testament to our talented and dedicated teachers and pupils, as well as the hard work and perseverance they displayed throughout the pandemic.
“The students’ exceptional results are just one of many reasons that we feel extremely proud of them. Our heartfelt thanks also go out to our pastoral staff and our Professional Guidance Centre, for helping all our pupils to navigate the challenging circumstances they have faced over the last few years.”
Earlier this year, CLC was also extremely proud to be named Top Independent Boarding School in the UK for the International Baccalaureate (IB). This places CLC 9th in the world, based on their recent 2022 IB results.
The Parent Power Guide had high praise for girls-only schools this year, claiming that their “findings show that girls in our top single-sex schools appear to have coped better with the pandemic than boys in boys-only or coeducational schools”. Of the 50 top performing independent schools in the UK, single-sex girls’ schools make up 20, while boys’ schools account for 12 and co-educational schools make up the other 18 schools.
This most recent award from The Sunday Times Parent Power Guide follows on from CLC being named South West Independent School of the Decade by the publication last year. This award celebrated not only the consistently exceptional academic results achieved by CLC students over the last ten years, but also took into account the holistic education available, including the extensive pastoral, co-curricular, and enrichment opportunities offered.
