Confirmation 2023
18th May 2023

Spring is a time when we rejoice in all that is new and fresh in the created world, as new life, new growth, and all that is green and colourful bursts around us! Alongside this, the great celebration of Easter is a time when Christians rejoice in all that God has done for humankind in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and we are in that Easter season right now (the celebration of Easter lasts for a full fifty days from Easter Day until the great celebration of Pentecost).

Easter is also the time when we rejoice in new commitments to the Christian faith made by CLC students who come to be confirmed. This isn’t a decision or commitment that’s taken lightly by the fifteen students confirmed this year, of which five were also baptised. They spent time preparing throughout the Spring Term, with Church of England candidates meeting in College weekly in small groups, and Roman Catholic candidates meeting regularly at St Gregory’s Church in Cheltenham.

This time of preparation - thinking about what it means to be Christian in today’s world, learning more about prayer and the Bible, and sharing faith and questions together - has been as wonderful in 2023 as it always is. Canon Josie, Revd Rosie and Revd Helen have appreciated the insights and thoughtfulness of those preparing, as well as the great joy of the confirmation services themselves.

On Saturday 29th April we were delighted to welcome the Right Reverend Robert Springett, Bishop of Tewkesbury to Christ Church for a service to baptise Demi, Duni, Vivian, Kathleen and Natasha, before confirming them in the Church of England along with Portia, Pearl, Gigi, Antonia, Marina, Amelia and Muna. Family and friends were in attendance, and we all enjoyed refreshments together afterwards as we celebrated the candidates’ renewed commitment to their journeys of faith.

Then on Friday 12th May, we were delighted to share in the Confirmation Mass at St Gregory’s Church as Sofia, Isabella and Renua were confirmed in the Roman Catholic church. We are grateful to our friends at St Gregory’s for their welcome, and for the opportunity CLC students have to share in confirmation with other young Catholics each year.

Congratulations to all who were confirmed, and we continue to pray for them as they journey on.
