Wonderful weather greeted the Equestrian Team at Rectory Farm for Grass Roots and Regional Points League Showjumping. The day kicked off with a win for the 70cm riders Hannah R, Lara R, Ursula S and Seraphine K (LC1/Year 7) with a speedy double clear for Lara securing her individual 2nd place. Alivia Tong is commended for showing outstanding progression in her riding and producing two great rounds.
In the 80cm, the team of Seraphine K, Lara R, Ursula S and Chloe (LC1) gained valuable points with a team 5th and very fast rounds secured 4th place for Lara and 5th for Chloe individually. The 90cm showed brave riding from Chloe and Bee who produced the third fastest round of the class!
Well done to Emmiline (UC4) who competed on horse Coeur, at the Area 9 County Level Eventing Competition. She did incredibly well placing first with an impressive clear inside the time cross country meaning she is now qualified for Regionals in August.
Well done Megan (LC2/Year 8) who finished 5th place at the South West Combined Championships last weekend. She has just received the news that she has gained qualification for National Championships in September.
Well done to Antonia (LC3/Year 9) who came first in her age group and second in the County Championships this weekend representing her club.
Well done to the 14 CLC skiers who raced at the NSSA British Open Ski Racing Championships towards the end of June in Manchester. The weeks of preparation at the dry slope ensured the girls coped well with the course and despite some nerves in the first run everyone was able to give the second run more gusto! This was a really valuable experience for everyone, and the team performed brilliantly.
Congratulations to the 29 girls who took their RAD ballet exams in June. We wish the best of luck to the five girls taking their ISTD modern exams.
Congratulations to Aimee (SFC1/Year 12) who has represented Jersey in the T20 International recently. Jersey achieved their biggest-ever winning margin in a T20 international as they won by 157 runs. Aimee hit 58 not out from 52 balls.
Saturday 1st July was a fantastic day starting with House Athletics in the morning. Thank you to all staff who were there to help run the events and support the pupils in their endeavours. There were superb displays of athleticism, courage, determination and teamwork from all participants. The weather nearly held out for us, but with one brief heavy downpour, there were only standing throws permitted and no hurdles. Fortunately, the remaining events took place and the pupils were able to challenge each other to battle for first place.
It was fabulous to see so many CLC families enjoying an afternoon of sport and physical activity. The Just Dance Competition got the afternoon off to a flying start with some wonderful dance routines on display. Well done to all the Houses who created some brilliant routines and kept the audience entertained. Congratulations to St Margaret’s for winning this competition.
The parent and daughter cricket and rounders matches were great fun to watch. There were some excellent tennis serves in action with people trying to get the fastest serve recorded. The old-fashioned sports day events with the egg and spoon race and the sack race caused much hilarity with spectators and participants involved! Thank you to the whole PE department for a brilliant day of activity.
Thank you to everyone who took part on Saturday. It really was a special day with people from all across the College Community getting together at the HFC and Field. A special thank you to Miss Brandon (EET Teacher and Bayshill Houseparent) for bringing her musical expertise and wonderful voice to entertain everyone, and for encouraging pupils to take up the microphone and delight us all.
Phoebe Thornett (CLC Leaver 2020) is currently in action at the U21 European Lacrosse Championships. She is representing Scotland in Prague. She has already scored three goals for Scotland in the pool matches. We are hoping that they reach the knock out stages by the end of this week to then progress and contest for final positions this weekend.
Mr Dochery (PE Department) is also in Prague. He is one of England’s Assistant Coaches and will be bringing back huge experience to share with the CLC community next term.
