Ensembles' Concert 2025
21st May 2025

The annual Ensembles’ Concert was a fantastic event featuring a breadth of performances across all year groups. Sinfonia got the performance off to an energetic and confident start with a medley of songs from Disney’s Aladdin. This piece, though great fun to play, consists of technical and rhythmical challenges which the ensemble of over 40 players achieved with gusto.

We were then treated to a variety of polished performances from our smaller ensembles which incorporated a vast range of styles: traditional folk melodies, jazzy numbers, The Beach Boys and the Overture to the Magic Flute, arranged for clarinets by our own Visiting Music Teacher, Monica Leiher. Well done to all our accomplished musicians in the flute choirs, clarinet, brass and harp ensembles.

Memory and La Cumparsita were both accomplished performances played by our newly founded Sinfonietta. Many of these CLC musicians were performing in an orchestra for the first time to a large, appreciative audience.

Congratulations to our SFC1 Flute trio who performed a virtuosic piece by Kuhlau unconducted, off the back of their success at the Cheltenham Festival of the Performing Arts the previous day. The students in this, and the clarinet ensemble, demonstrated their communication and performance skills at the highest level to our younger members of the audience.

The Junior Vocal Ensemble gave a moving rendition of Flying Free and Lower College Choir’s impassioned message in Why We Sing encapsulated the sentiment of the whole evening. It was clear to see the dedication, passion and skills on display but also the friendships made through rehearsing and performing together.
