Congratulations to SFC1 (Year 12) students Zoe and Gia who represented CLC at the national final of the Institut Français’ French debating competition in March, having won their regional heat at Marlborough College a month earlier.
In two closely fought debates, they had to argue for the proposition, ‘La figure du superhéros est dangereuse’ (The figure of the superhero is dangerous) and against the motion ‘Comme l’Espagne tous les Etats devraient instaurer un congé menstruel’ (Like Spain, all countries should introduce menstrual leave). They lost the first but won the second, so did not make the final, but had a highly enjoyable and intellectually stimulating time and are already looking forward to next year’s competition.
Thanks to Mme McDonald and Mr Campbell for preparing them over several weeks and for taking them to London for the final.
Mr Campbell, Head of French
