French Week 2023
4th April 2023

LA SEMAINE DE LA FRANCOPHONIE

French Week 2023 – 20th to 24th March

Every year, CLC celebrates International French Week with fun facts about global French culture and lots of activities!

This year, on International Francophonie Day (20th March), Mme McDonald held French Prayers with a team of SFC students (Jamie, Eloise, Gia, Zoe, Bonita and Heidi). To begin, Matilda and Leila (SFC2) serenaded the Princess Hall with 'Les feuilles mortes' by Yves Montand. Then, students learned about how the French language has influenced English, and the importance of developing language skills – with bérets and French accents, of course!

Throughout the week, students had lots of opportunities to get involved in activities organised by Mme Ferré-Dyèvre and her French Week team of SFC pupils, which brought French culture to break time activities. Upper College and Sixth Form students had the chance to play pétanque, a classic French ball game, in the Garden, while LC had a go at élastique, a jumping game. Lower and Upper College students also took part in French culture quizzes written by SFC students, Dr Quirighetti organised a well-attended LC1 and LC2 French Poetry Recital competition, and there was even a French calligraphie session for Lower College students to practise handwriting à la française! With these engaging activities, students had the chance to experience everyday aspects of life in France and learn about the French-speaking world, whilst taking French culture outside of the classroom and making it fun.

Merci to the French Week team, consisting of Jamie, Eloise, Geraldine and Matilda in SFC2, and Clara, Zoe, Gia, Leelam, Izzy and Aurora in SFC1!
