The SFC1 German learners recently attended a Career Roadshow at the University of Birmingham, organised by the Goethe-Institut to look into the world of work with German, both in Germany and the UK.
It was an inspiring and eye-opening experience for our students. They found it exciting to explore the university campus and connect with other German learners, as well as university students who shared their positive experiences of studying German.
Many had combined the language with subjects such as international management, law or chemistry, showing how versatile and valuable German can be in a wide range of academic and professional fields. Particularly motivating were the stories of students who had spent a year abroad in Germany, gaining work experience with international companies like E.ON - some even receiving job offers as a result.
The event also featured a visiting music ensemble from Leipzig, whose vocal performance was deeply impressive. One of our students even joined them in a singing workshop, which was a highlight of the day.
Overall, the fair was a fantastic opportunity to reflect on future pathways and helped students begin to navigate the challenging but exciting task of planning their next steps after CLC.
