Green Careers Week
6th November 2025

This week at College we celebrated Green Careers Week with an array of events and activities, welcoming guest speakers from all corners of the sustainability sector. Read on for an overview of the talks from one of our pupils.

“In celebration of Green Careers week, on Tuesday, I got the opportunity to hear from speakers Annie Heaton (CEO of Responsible Steel), Rachel Shotliff (a Senior Architect at Pursell), and Faye Baker (a PhD student exploring the use of solar technology). All speakers shared their unique journey in navigating the highs and lows of promoting a more sustainable future. There were a multitude of topics discussed, but the following stood out to me the most:

“Annie addressed the unspoken realities of maintaining an establishment in the steel industry, tackling the challenge of balancing sustainability and geographical, political and economic demands.

“Rachel discussed her experiences working as a senior architect at Pursell, refurbishing and reusing old buildings. She also offered insights from her past projects, including developing an accessible school for children with special needs in Australia.

“Faye discussed her journey of self-discovery and her experience in academia – she began with an interest in languages and later realised her passions in renewable materials and solar cell technology.  Overall, it was an extremely insightful talk, leaving me optimistic about both my future and the future of our society.”

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our guest speakers for generously sharing their time and insights!
