Even though this half term is short it has been packed with social action. We may have finished our Community Links Programme for the year, but we have still been out in the local community with various events.
Our current total raised for charity this academic year is £26,177.09. An incredible amount.
Our girls were honoured to be asked by Astell House to come for lunch for VE day. The residents were really pleased to see their familiar faces after Community Links had finished.
For the residents that remember VE Day, we listened to their stories about what it was like for them. Many of them were young or teenagers but remembered it well.
We were also asked to sing along to some wartime songs. Many thanks to our partners Astell House and the girls who volunteered their time this year.
At the end of last term, Anna (SFC1) organised a Poetry Day at Gloucester Road Primary School. Anna had been volunteering there for her Community Links and wanted to inspire the children with her love of poetry.
The children were off timetable and she planned and delivered lessons to Years 1-5. The children did quizzes, games and had lots of fun with Anna.
What an incredible achievement and a lovely way to give back to our local community. Thank you to Anna for her hard work in organising this event.
Over the Easter holidays, Gloucestershire Young Carers ran a Football coaching camp for their young people. KC Coaching ran a training session at the HFC where we welcomed the carers who enjoyed dribbling, passing and practising their skills.
Many thanks to the team at HFC for hosting the event.
Swim Cheltenham, a swimming intervention programme, supports primary school aged children around learning to swim, water safety and confidence.
This is primarily for year 5 and 6 pupils that have displayed nervousness, lack of confidence or unsafe behaviour around water during school swimming lessons.
From Monday 7th April to Friday 11th April, we were delighted to host the intensive swimming lessons at the HFC.
We recently hosted the Down Syndrome Swimming GB team for a training day, providing the swimming pool and function room free of charge ahead of them travelling to the Open European Down Syndrome Swimming in Albufeira, Portugal later this year. We wish them the best of luck in their competition.
The MSF Colour Run
On Friday 2nd May, we had the pleasure of hosting CLC’s Colour Run - raising money for Doctors Without Borders (MSF), a humanitarian organisation that provides medical care in more than 70 countries! Girls and staff alike had lots of fun as they raced through the field while throwing colourful paint at each other. A wide array of food including tteboki, soda and fruit pops were also sold alongside the run. We are so excited to share that as a result, we managed to raise over £500 while hosting an afternoon of lots of fun for everyone.
Thank you for everyone who participated and volunteered!
Giselle, Emily and Charlene
Back by popular demand, girls could bid on all sorts of treats and prizes in our CBAY. Greek lessons, Mufti days, cakes and Spanish lunches were on offer for the highest bidder. The girls raised over £800 for charity. Well done everyone.
Brooke Ice Pop Sale
This term we took advantage of the glorious weather with an Ice Pop sale to raise money for Brooke, a horse and donkey charity. Many thanks to Juliet (LC3) for her hard work.
St Hilda’s East Uniform Sales
Many thanks to St Hilda’s house for their uniform sales. They have raised over £12,000 for St Hilda’s East, a charity that combats the challenges arising from deprivation and social exclusion through the delivery of a wide range of activities and services to promote wellbeing and social connections. You can find out more about the important work they do here.
