Lower College Murder Mystery Sleepover 2022
17th June 2022

We usually hold our sleepover in January for just LC1 (Year 7) pupils, although the usual plans for this special treat were thwarted by the pandemic. Of course, at CLC we ensure that wherever possible, we make up for any lost opportunities, which is why we held a BIG sleepover for both LC1 and LC2 (Year 7 and 8) year groups on Saturday 11th June – we certainly had double the fun! Not only did we have two year groups, but we needed to while away some time to make sure it was suitably dark for the murder mystery part of the evening!

It was clear from the merriment and energy right from the start that the LC1 and LC2 pupils were keen to make the most of a brilliant evening filled with activities and treats. The event commenced with a feast of a supper at Bayshill, arranged by our wonderful catering team – the mountains of rocky road, as well as ice creams, were particularly well received! Soon afterwards, we were cosying up in Lower Hall to watch The Peanut Butter Falcon on the big screen together. The students thoroughly enjoyed this heart-warming film and gasped, cheered and laughed at various points.

The exuberance continued when the pupils formed a giant conga line and sang or squealed all the way down the Marble Corridor and towards the Lower Hall.

At last it was time for the murder mystery – brilliantly co-ordinated by our Head of Library Services, Mr Todd. Given the numbers participating, the help from a number of Sixth Formers was most welcome! The pupils relished the chance to bolt around by torchlight, collaborating to solve the ‘murder’ from clever clues left all over College. The girls were suitably challenged and the shrieks, laughter, whispers and chattering demonstrated that they found this a very exciting activity. Their flushed faces at the end said it all… the LC1 students had expended a great deal of energy and had thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of solving 'The Iced Bun Murder'.

House staff gathered everyone up after this and students returned to Boarding Houses with the Day girls in tow for a fabulous sleepover – not before they had enjoyed hot chocolate!

Once again, this proved to be a wonderful opportunity for all the students to engage across the year group and they clearly appreciated the sheer pleasure of being together and having the school to themselves. It was indeed a night to remember, and hopefully one more which makes our youngest members of College feel they really do belong to this marvellous 168-year-old community.
