Last Saturday proved to be the perfect occasion to host the LC1 (Year 7) ‘Murder Mystery’ and sleepover event at CLC. With the January evening providing darkness early on, the pupils relished the chance to have College to themselves and dash around by torchlight as part of the set up on the main site.
From the start, it was clear from the merriment and energy that the LC1 pupils were keen to make the most of a marvellous event; enjoying the chance to mix across the houses. The boarders were excited to welcome all the day girls for much of the day and overnight. The day girls made their way to allocated boarding houses straight after school on Saturday, which gave them ample opportunity to settle in, and set up the spaces for the ‘camp out’ in houses.
Later, while we were enjoying supper altogether at the Bayshill dining room, Head of Library Services, Mr Todd, prepared his clever clues. They were left all over College and we had some wonderful Sixth Form helpers assisting him to ensure another successful whodunnit at CLC!
Initially, the groups were led into the darkened College Library, where they huddled together, using torches to study the ‘evidence’. Then they raced around, working hard on deductions from clues that were suitably challenging. The shrieks, laughter, whispers and chattering throughout said it all. The pupils had expended a great deal of energy and had thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of solving the iced-bun murder!
What has become a tradition at the sleepover is the chance to be noisy down the Marble Corridor. So, to finish, the students were encouraged to form a giant conga line and they sang or squealed all the way back to the Common Room. There, they were greeted by house staff waiting to accompany them to houses for hot chocolate and other activities before settling down for the night.
Once again, this proved to be a brilliant opportunity for our youngest students to engage across the year group, and they clearly revelled in the sheer pleasure of being together and having the school to themselves for a time.
