LC3 Music Scholars’ Concert 2026

Following last week’s UC4 Scholars’ Recital, the LC3 Music Scholars’ Concert showcased our seven Music Award holders in an equally impressive display.

Performing to a hall filled largely with their peers is no small task, and there was plenty of nervous excitement in rehearsals and backstage. However, every performer rose to the occasion, delivering focused, confident, and communicative performances. The audience was incredibly enthusiastic and encouraging, helping the musicians to do their very best.

Some chose to showcase more than one instrument, while others elected to play one or more pieces on their first study. Karen began the concert with some virtuoso marimba and returned later to sing the hauntingly beautiful ‘Sleep’ by Ivor Gurney. Mala gave a lyrical and intelligent performance of the first movement of Brahms’ E-flat Clarinet Sonata, and Ellie brought lively contrasts and clear lines to the first movement of Beethoven’s First Piano Sonata, paired with Mendelssohn’s Spring Song.

Cynthia brought a crisp dancing feel to a flute sonata movement by Leclair, later returning to the stage for a beautifully contrasted pairing of Debussy’s evocative Prelude ‘La fille aux cheveux de lin’ with Mozart’s perennially popular Rondo alla Turca.

Emily treated us to more Debussy, with a flowing and expressive performance of his ‘Rêverie’. We then heard Clara perform a very expressive programme of two songs: Handel’s ‘Where’er You Walk’ and ‘L’ho perduta’ by Mozart. Finally, Seikemi ended the concert in great style with two musical theatre showpieces, ‘I Dreamed a Dream’ from Les Misérables and ‘Killer Instinct’ from Bring It On.

Huge thanks to the pupils’ instrumental and vocal teachers for helping them prepare so thoroughly for the concert. As the person who both introduced and accompanied the concert, it was a pleasure for me to assist these highly talented and hard-working students in sharing their achievements. It was also lovely to have the special participation of our Director of Music, David Lloyd, in this concert, playing the piano for Clara.
