The annual May Concert took place on Saturday 21st May at the Parabola Arts Centre, and opened with Sinfonia performing a medley of Disney favourites. The orchestra played brilliantly and gave their all, performing hits from the lilting ballad of Circle of Life to a jazzy rendition of Friend Like Me. The concert also provided a great opportunity for the smaller College Wind Ensembles to showcase the work they have put in all year round and we were treated to performances from the Brass Ensemble and Flute Choir.
The stars of the show were our six wonderful UC4 (Year 10) soloists, Audrey (flute), Imogen (voice), Isabella (voice), Claudia (trumpet), Saskia (flute) and Eleanor (piano). It can be nerve-wracking standing up and performing, especially in such a large venue to a near-full audience, but each individual performance was delivered with confidence and flair. All the soloists should be extremely proud of their achievement.
Finally, to round up the morning’s concert, Lower College Choir performed two moving hits from West Side Story: Tonight and Somewhere, then finished with a world premiere performance of the tongue-in-cheek composition by Paul Ayres’ Mark Zuckerberg Wants to be my Friend on Facebook. The quality of singing, clear diction and ensemble of this young group was simply stunning.
A huge, sincere congratulations and thank you to all the performers who contributed. It was exhilarating to see such a talented group of young people perform so well throughout the morning and rise to the occasion. With most performers currently in Lower College and UC4 (Year 10), I left the concert feeling incredibly excited for the future of music making at CLC.
