This week, we celebrated the joy of learning German together with the German Embassy London, the Goethe-Institut London and the DAAD.
Our SFC1 German students participated in the “Business Lunch Series” organised by the Goethe Institut, outlining how German can complement careers. This week’s topic, “German and a career in Finance and Management”, was very insightful and encouraging - a great example of how language learning can open doors!
Pupils also took part in two exciting competitions. The first challenged everyone to design an “Invention Meme”. Which German invention is part of your life? The second invited students to explore the magic of German compound nouns with posters. Who doesn’t like words such as Schadenfreude, Poltergeist, Kindergarten, Fußball, and Volkswagen?
Our school community also participated in our "How German Is Your Life?" quiz, which included fifteen everyday aspects of German culture, ranging from bread and sparkling water to football and punctuality. The results revealed that many of us share habits with German-speaking cultures.
In lessons, we also discussed the value of continuing with German beyond LC3. Learning German offers a range of long‑term benefits, as it’s widely recognised and consistently regarded as one of the most sought-after foreign languages for UK jobs. It also opens up many academic pathways, giving students an added advantage when applying for university.
