MFL trip roundup
2nd May 2025

Over the Easter break, students from across College went on various trips with the Modern Foreign Languages Department. Read below to hear all of the amazing activities students took part in.

Malaga

On the last day of term, a keen group of 22 UC4 and UC5 students departed to Malaga for a five day language and culture immersion trip. Our bags were packed with summer clothes and plenty of sun cream and we were ready to enjoy some glorious Andalusian sunshine and warmth.

Señor Moya had planned an enriching programme that included language lessons in a local school, a treasure hunt that allowed us to explore the charming city of Malaga, a wonderful afternoon in Frigiliana and Nerja, one of Spain’s prettiest villages, a tapas evening, a day trip to the unforgettable Alhambra Palace in Granada and a fabulous Flamenco workshop by the sea.

Our time in Malaga was truly memorable and we will cherish the many memories of our time together in southern Spain for many years to come. ¡Nos encantó Málaga! ¡Gracias!

France

At the end of the Spring term, 35 LC2 and LC3 girls went to Sète in south-west France for a few days to improve their French and visit one of France’s loveliest regions.

Girls stayed in pairs and trios in host families where they had breakfast and dinner every day. They had three sessions of language lessons in a local language school and went on interesting excursions in the local area.

Sète itself is nicknamed the Venice of the Languedoc because of its canals and its lagoon which is famous for its oysters (a local delicacy which the teachers availed themselves of on more than one occasion!).  It’s a lovely place to wander around and soak up the atmosphere.

We also had a boules lesson, enjoyed trips to the walled medieval city of Aigues-Mortes and to Montpellier, with its lovely old quarter.

A morning on the beach, a view of the snow-capped Pyrenees in the distance, rounded things off nicely on the Sunday morning.

Italy

In the Easter holiday, we had another very successful Italian trip to Padua to visit our partner school, the Duca D’Aosta Liceo. Our hosts at the school were incredible, as always, and both teachers and students gave us a very warm welcome and made us feel at home. They also provided a packed itinerary so that the girls could maximise their experience of daily life at an Italian school by attending lessons and workshops, and had the opportunity to see the beautiful sights of Padua.

We certainly packed a lot in: from tower building to a treasure hunt, from Padua University’s Anatomical Theatre to the Scrovegni Chapel, and a day trip to Venice to Catajo Castle. Not to mention a leaving party on the last night where all the students found common ground in music and dancing. And naturally, we had great food and the obligatory daily gelato.

The girls all did very well, embraced all the activities with enthusiasm, throwing themselves into trying out their Italian even though many of them had only been studying Italian for three months. They seemed to really enjoy the experience and are looking forward to welcoming their Italian friends to College on the return visit.
